Blurry video subscribers of Time Warner Cable loss in Q4

AT & T Cable
Analysts said the TW Cable video customer trends were also a bit weaker than Wall Street had expected on average. TW Cables and AT&Ts subscriber updates are among the first during fourth-quarter earnings season for TV distributors, which analysts expect will show a return of pay TV providers to video user growth after two straight quarters of subscriber declines.

TW Cable said it lost 141,000 video subscribers in the final quarter of 2010, fewer than the record 155,000 it had lost in the third quarter. TW Cable COO Rob Marcus said the weak housing market and economy continue to have the biggest impact on subscriber momentum.

Time Warner Cable TWC posted nice acceleration in revenue growth during the fourth quarter, though margins took a hit on higher programming costs and a number of one-time items. Customer growth came in about as we had expected based on managements comments last quarter, though Internet access growth was on the weak side. This mix shift, coupled with price increases, pushed average revenue per Internet access customer up more than 3% during the quarter, an impressive figure relative to recent experience. Total revenue grew 5.9% year over year, the fastest pace of any quarter during 2010, on a sharp increase in political advertising.

In addition to another 141,000 cable TV subscribers cutting the TWC cord in Q4, the net loss was the third straight quarter in a row of sub losses. The No. 2 cable MSO in the U.S. did see growth outside its bread-and-butter business though: it added 94,000 Internet customers and 72,000 phone customers.

iPhone 4S will begin selling in China in March

Time to rejoice for the Chinese: in the very near future, they too will be ableto connect to a large army of owners of iPhone 4S, potentially increasing itby as much as 130 million of client souls. Do not be afraid of such a grandscope - in fact it is only on the date announced by the Chinese sales ofiPhone 4S, which will start on March 9.

Exclusive distributor of Apples latest smartphone will predictably deal withthe Middle Kingdom China Telecom with the target audience in the amount of those same one hundred and thirty million subscribers, the worlds largestCDMA-network and in January received official permission from the Ministry of Industry on the sale of new gadgets in the country.

Liquidmetal Based iPhone 5 to Launch at WWDC in June

Korean site ETNews.com claims that Apple is planning to use new "liquid metal" alloys in the iPhone 5 to yield a thinner and lighter device that is resistant to impact damage. Appleacquired the rights to Liquidmetal Technologies "amorphous metal alloys" in August 2010 and soon after was spotted hiring engineers to work on the materials, but little concrete news on Liquidmetals contributions to Apple has appeared since that time.
According to industry sources, the next flagship phones of [Apple and Samsung] are expected to adopt unprecedented materials for their main bodies, that is, ceramic for the Galaxy S3 and liquid metal for iPhone5, both being thin, light and highly resistant to external impacts. The new phase of the rivalry is because neither one of them can get a decisive edge over the other solely with its OS and AP specifications, features or design.
The report also claims that the iPhone 5 will debut in June at Apples Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), returning to the mid-year launch schedule seen up until last years launch of the iPhone 4S in October. Most observers expect, however, that the iPhone 5 will not launch until the later September-October timeframe this year as well.

ETNews does not have a lengthy track record regarding Apple rumors, although the site did incorrectly claim last year that the iPhone would launch in late June with a special event several weeks after WWDC. The site appears to have been more accurate with its January claim that Sharp had been cut out of the supply chain for the display in the new iPad. Sharp did experience difficulties meeting Apples quality control standards for the display production, and is only now ramping up production to help meet demand.

Based on the sources unreliable track record, the preponderance of expectations pointing to a release later in the year, and a lack of corroborating claims regarding Apples plans for Liquidmetals alloys, we believe that this rumor is not particularly reliable. Consequently, we are posting this claim to our blog primarily for reader interest and discussion.

Collectors iPhone will improve working conditions in factories in China

American Apple and its Taiwanese partner, Foxconn agreed to take steps to improve working conditions in factories in China, which produces iPhone and iPad. This decision was made after an independent organization Fair Labor Association («Association of fair labor», FLA) conducted an audit of these enterprises with the consent of Apple. As noted by Reuters, verification has become the largest in the history of inspections at foreign sites on production of U.S. firms. She confirmed that the organization of labor in these factories are allowed numerous and serious violations. It clarifies the The Wall Street Journal, the list of all the inspectors were about five dozen violations. In particular, workers are forced to recycle - up to 60 hours per week, but overtime they often do not pay, there is also a risk to their health and life.

Foxconn is already promised to bring labor standards into conformity with the laws of China in July 2013 for this number of hours per week will be reduced so as not to exceed the permitted 49 hours per week (36 hours overtime), safety standards will be revised salary workers will increase. In order to not fall for this production, the company will employ tens of thousands of additional employees.
Apple has responded to this statement, which thanked the FLA for the work and supported all the recommendations of the association. Recently, because of such violations of the company was subjected to fierce criticism from human rights activists and trade union organizations. An audit of the FLA was a test of the strength of the new company CEO Tim Cook, who is working to improve the image of Apple, says Financial Times. Apple recently predctavila report on the results of its own inspection of working conditions at its factories in China, and noted some improvement. According to the company, if in 2011 62% of Chinese factories more than half of their employees worked more than 60 hours per week, in February 2012 already 89% of all workers worked less than 60 hours, and average of 48 hours per week.
